More often than not, we find that our customers are hiring our skips, without the understanding that there is a time limit for how long you can keep the skip. When doing renovation projects, we understand that the work is an ongoing process and it can be tricky to find the right time for a 2-week slot. Here at Colson Transport, we’ve heard and seen it all, which is why we want to keep you informed about how long can I keep a skip on a driveway.

If you’re looking to hire a skip, take a look at Colson Transport today!

How long can I keep a skip on a driveway in the UK?

The majority of companies will let you have 1 week to dispose of your waste before picking the skip back up. This period can usually be extended to a 2 week period but may concur an additional cost. Here at Colson Transport, we let our clients keep the skips for a period of 2 weeks to begin with, but you may want to check with the company you’re hiring from to get a more accurate time period.

If you wish to keep your skip for longer, let the company know as soon as possible and they will give you the best prices to keep the skip for a longer time frame.

What to consider if you want long-term skip hire

Skip hire companies will be more likely to let you keep a skip for longer if it is on your driveway. This is because having a skip on a road requires a permit from your local council, which won’t be lenient, especially if you’ve already had a skip on the road for an extended period of time.

It’s also important to note that enclosed skips are preferred if you require keeping it for an extended period of time.

As well as this, knowing and letting your chosen skip company know the timeline for your construction project and contingency plans can help you to avoid any hidden fees.

Ask your skip provider for more information on how long can I keep a skip on a driveway

Different skip providers will have different rules, so if you already have a skip on your drive and are looking for answers, call them up! The sooner you let your provider know that you want to keep the skip for longer, the more knowledgeable you’ll be on the prices of extending the time period.

As well as this, your skip provider will also be able to give you advice on whereabouts to put your skip, as well as the different options you have. It’s also good to keep in mind that sizes often equal time. For example, skip sizes below 14 yards are often set at a 7-day time limit, whereas bigger skips often have unique contracts in which the time limit is on an individual basis. Ask your skip provider about this, as they may be able to offer you a unique contract.
